“Great saw easy to transport.!! I needed a saw that I could use once I hang a tree stand. My 10-foot extendable pole saw is too much to try to hoist up to a tree stand. This saw allows me to sit and cut any limbs/branches that may be in my line of sight. Excellent product. Very Sharp! I love how it compacts and fits in my backpack. I should have bought this last year.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This is Ivation’s telescoping, 8 inch, electric pole chain saw. The unit features a powerful 6.5-ampere motor and has 15 inches above ground reach. The handle is rubber wrapped for user’s comfort and the lightweight design considerably reduces user fatigue. The rubber also reduces the transfer of the chainsaw’s vibrations to your hands. The automatic chain lubrication system keeps chain running smoothly(oil tank holds 80ml and the internal lubrication system automatically applies the oil as needed to maintain the chain running smoothly).

“This saw arrived right when I needed it for spring pruning. It’s lightweight and easy for a woman to use. I am 67, and a battery operated pruning saw that I purchased last year was just too heavy with the battery in place for me to feel comfortable using. This corded saw is lighter in weight, and the telescoping mechanism is very efficient. The self-oiling feature is excellent as well compared to my previous telescoping saw. This is a great product…much better than anything I saw in local stores.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This is Trimmer Plus’s 8-inch pole saw with bar and a chain. This pole saw’s expansive height makes it perfect for trimming high branches. It can reach up to 12 feet with a 7-foot pole and saw (you can incorporate two extension options). The self-oiling system keeps the unit running well. Highly recommended.

“Works beautifully. Easy to install and operate. Does a terrific job at what it is designed to do. The 8” bar does things like clearing heavy bushes/brush and trimming tree limbs with ease.

My only regret is that I waited way too long to buy this unit. I did a lot of this work over the years using small hand saws and heavy chainsaws while standing on a ladder. This Pole saw makes the work a lot less tiring and a lot safer.

Also, note that Amazon.com has the absolute best price around for this Polesaw including Ebay which I use often.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This is Silky’s 21 inches, telescoping pole saw. The extension range of the unit is 8 feet to 21 feet. The unit has 15-2/5-inch blade length with 5.5 teeth per inch. Ideal for applications of pruning, trimming, arborist, forestry, lawn and garden. The aluminium extension poles are oval shaped providing precise control over the direction of the blade. The blade can be adjusted for two different angles for lower or higher cutting and features an upper and lower sickle. To allow effective use, two locking systems are incorporated to assure structural rigidity of the extended poles. The upper sickle is used to cut vines and the lower sickle to undercut bark. Lower sickle provides a clean cut without damaging the tree, while upper sickle prevents the blade from slipping off a limb.

“I spent significant time researching extension pole saws that I could use to prune the many hard and softwood trees on my property without incurring the expense of a professional tree company. I was impressed by the 21′ Silky Hayauchi but very sceptical about its ability to cut branches at this distance off the ground. I was also doubtful of my ability at age 66 to physically handle this saw at such an extreme height. I called the Silky Store and spoke to a representative regarding my concerns. They advised that I would not experience any problems as long as I engaged the double locking system on each pole extension and allowed the saw to do the work. They explained that the blade was designed to cut only on the pull stroke and that gravity would provide most of the required cutting force. The effort required on the push stroke would be minimal since no cutting occurs on the upstroke. Based on their advice and the Silky guaranty I purchased the 21′ Hayauchi pole saw. I received it in 2 days! I was totally amazed at the incredible performance of this very high-quality saw. I quickly cut large limbs at least 20′ or more off the ground. The guidance received from the Silky Store representative combined with my experience with this superior quality tool was very impressive. I intend to purchase new Silky saws from the Silky Store.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This unit by Remington is an electric chainsaw and pole saw combo. This 2-in-1 detachable pole saw is the perfect tool for hard-to-reach small limb trimming. It has a powerful 8-amp electric motor drive with a low-kickback 10-inch bar and chain. The saw can cut high branches 10-feet to 15-feet overhead. Easy flip and lock clamps quickly secure pole length, along with nonslip grip for comfortable use. A push-button oiler with easy-squeeze bulb provides the fair amount of oil for lubrication.

“I bought this little guy the same day I bought a proper gas-powered chainsaw (16″ Homelite), both at Home Depot. It took care of all of the limbs around my roofline without a problem. Other than being a little awkward with the pole fully extended (mostly just heavy and long), the operation of the saw, with or without the pole, was very straightforward. I wish I could say the same for the Homelite. After the REAL chainsaw blade came off twice and got too dull even to use, I pulled out the Remington and fell 4 10″ diameter oak trees without a problem. Clearly, this saw is not to be your primary and dragging around the cord is tedious but it will dispatch limbs without a second thought, and if you need it to go a little further, it’ll gladly do it. I was reluctant when I bought it, but very glad that I did once I put it to use.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

3. Fiskars Pole Saw ($42.29)

This is Fiskar’s 14-foot, extendable tree pruner. The unit helps in cutting branches without the use of a ladder. The power lever technology gives you two time more cutting power than traditional tree pruners. The maximum cutting capacity measures 1-1/8 inch diameter and comes with  15 inch WoodZig saw blade for cutting through through thicker branches. The blade stays sharp, and the low-friction coating helps the blade slide through the wood easily. The lightweight, fibreglass pole reduces fatigue.

“I went looking for a pole saw because branches were rubbing on my roof and hitting my gutters. I found a few at a local hardware store, which the salesperson described as hard to use, then he tried to steer me toward buying either an electric or gas-powered pole-mounted chainsaw. I don’t trim trees often, so I wanted to avoid the expense of and maintenance on a chainsaw. However, the manual pole saws they carried were all a brand I had never heard of, heavier than I wanted, and priced comparably with this Fiskars, so I decided to buy it from Amazon. I was pleased that this saw was significantly lighter, and that the replaceable Woodzig blade is an aggressive cutter — it doesn’t require a lot of weight on the blade, although I found a rapid jab-tug worked best to keep branches from swaying back and forth. I also debated buying the model that’s just a saw, but having the pruner for smaller branches (which aren’t stiff enough to saw efficiently) is well worth the extra money and weight. I haven’t used this tool long enough to speak definitively about how the extension lock holds up over time, but I found it easy to use, and it did not slip. This tool was much easier to use than expected, and I have no doubts that the decision to order this model rather than what the local store stocked was a good one.

I also want to make an observation based on other pole saw reviews I’ve read. I’ve read complaints about blades binding and how dangerous falling branches are, leading me to suspect that people were sawing on branches directly above them. That’s not how you should use a pole saw; you should extend it so that you’re standing off to the side and cut on the top of branches rather than their side. This technique results in the weight of the branch opening your cut rather than pinching the blade, and when the branch falls you aren’t underneath it.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This is Snow Joe’s 8-inches, 6.5-ampere electric pole saw incorporating automatic chain lubricating system. Works great for cutting overhanging limbs and thin logs. This pole chain saw features an 8 inches Oregon bar and chain with an auto-oiler to keep the bar and chain fully lubricated during use. A simple push of a button brings life to your tool. It has a total reach of 15 inches.

“This is a very well-made pole saw. Assembly was very easy. The pole itself is quite beefy and very easy to extend plus the lock is one of the best features as it’s easy to lock and unlock and stays adjusted. I was surprised to see that the cutting guide was made of metal. The oil reservoir has a window, so it is easy to see the level of oil. The best part of the saw is that it’s the lightest one on the market in this price range, So you don’t have to be a guerrilla to use it. The motor is more than adequate to get the job done. It comes with an excellent manual, has a two-year warranty, and a single metal tool that is all that is needed to assemble as well to keep the chain properly adjusted. I highly recommend this saw.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

1. Black and Decker Pole Saw ($116.93)

This is Black and Decker’s 20V, 8 inches Li-ion pole saw. The extension allows for a useable length of 6-1/2 or 10 feet and overhead reach of 14 feet. The unit boasts a capacity of 100 cuts of 1-1/2-inch pine branches per charge. The 8-inch cutting bar and chain allows for a maximum cutting diameter of 6 inches. It is battery powered yet pretty powerful. Recommended!

“I know because I am a 55-year-old grandmother. I got the Black, and Decker pole saw for my husband for Father’s Day. My husband was raving about how great/light it was so I wanted to see what it felt like in my hands. I was amazed at how light it was. So, I tried removing a small branch piece of cake! Then I tried another bigger one and another…pretty soon I’d removed all the branches I could reach. Go with the 20-volt version – it is worth the difference in price. It’s powerful and holds a charge for quite a while. I didn’t use it continually, but it hadn’t run out of juice after an hour. It says it extends to 14 ft. But it felt too wobbly extended that far. It worked great extended to 12 ft. though. I decided to write a review because yesterday our neighbour was trying to remove several branches from a damaged tree. His small gas chainsaw kept throwing the chain then started smoking when he got the engine running again. Then he tried using their pole saw, but it had trouble with the size of the branch and also kept running out of charge. I went to our garage and brought out our Black and Decker and promptly removed all the unwanted branches all by myself with them standing there staring. I guess I could have just let them borrow our pole saw, but it was pretty cool to be able to say, “Step aside, boys!” and get the job done myself.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

I never knew there were so many pole saws — thank you for the list! I was surprised to see the Fiskars non-electric saw make it so high on your list. What makes the Black and Decker better than the other? Thanks again. Garry A Harris
